Focus
Dear Beloved,
This past week I have had a difficult time prioritizing God. I went back to school last week. Which means waking up before the sun, a lot of studying, and getting dressed in the morning. I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was, and it threw me off.
I spent so much time trying to figure out my new schedule and how to stay motivated and on top of my grades, that I didn't realize that I had spent close to zero time with God this week.
It's so easy to fall into a smooth rhythm with God when you don't have much going on. But the second that life started to kick back up, I felt like I was scrambling to fit Him into my so-called busy schedule. I read this quote that convicted me.
"The closer you walk with God, the less room for anything to come between."
It got me thinking about the way I was going about my week. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." Was I committing my works to the Lord? Was I doing everything I could to glorify God? When we focus on God everything else falls in line. But when we focus on everything else, it all falls apart.
Take Matthew 6:31-33 as an example. "Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
God knows that we need money, food, grades, doctors... He knows. Still, He says to seek Him first. He should come before school and work. He should definitely come before friends and family. He should come before fellowship and ministry. He should be first.
You always have time for God it's whether you use it or not. You can listen to theWord on the Bible app, pray, listen to worship, all from your car. My point is, instead of trying to squeeze our relationship with God into our lives... We should be squeezing our lives into our relationship with God.
