Rest
Dear Beloved,
I'm not sure if it's just me, but this one theme kept popping up in almost every conversation I had this week. Every song I heard. Even every Bible plan I read.
Find Rest & Be Quiet.
Most of the conversations I had didn't spell it out like that, though it is the obvious answer. Most of this week's conversations I have consisted of the phrases:
I'm tired because I had work till 11:30 last night.
I literally have to sacrifice one class's homework to get 3 others in on time.
So much is going on at home at the moment it's hard to focus.
I've been so distracted as of late that it's scary.
Mind you, these friends are people in my life who don't know that this is Biblical. Granted, just because as Christians and we know that we need rest, doesn't mean that we aren't stressed, tired, or worn down. Even my Christian friends this week have been worn down.
I feel like God is distant.
You ever have those days when you feel agitated?
I feel less connected to God.
I feel like I'm burning out and I don't want to.
We are not invincible. We are humans. The Bible says that the only way we'll be able to find true rest is through Jesus. Why? Because when we know and have a relationship with the maker of the Universe... We shouldn't worry about anything because He is the God of the impossible. "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Matthew 11:29
Believe it or not, God cares about us. He cares about your physical health and mental health. He needs us to be ready for whenever we have to go out to proclaim and defend His Kingdom. But when we are exhausted and stressed out, our focus is elsewhere.
Psalms 127 says, "Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives to his beloved rest."
This week I want you guys to look at where you're putting all your energy. What is draining for you? What is keeping you from Him?
Rest is a necessity. Find some time this week and simply rest.
